Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader allows Central Catholic to make essential reading practice more effective for every student. Students can personalize their reading to their own individual current level. Teachers can manage all reading activities including if a students should read the book to or with someone, or if a student should read the book independently. Students’ reading and understanding can be assessed through four types of quizzes: Reading Practice, Vocabulary Practice, Literacy Skills, and Textbook Quizzes. Accelerated Reader is designed to build a lifelong love of reading and learning.
FAME
FAME (Intense intervention reading program; FAME is research-based developmental reading program for adolescents who read below their grade level. The program consists of a series of four courses: Foundations of Reading, Adventures in Reading, Mastery of Meaning and Explorations. The curriculum is based on Chall's theory of reading development which believes that learning to read is an evolutionary process. The curriculum progresses from helping students identify words in print and build fluency to acquiring new concepts and analyzing what they read.
Modified FAME Program
FAME is a reading intervention program designed to help students with low reading ability. FAME stands for Foundations of Reading; Adventures in Reading; Mastery of Meaning; Explorations. In its original use, students showed an improvement of one-year grade equivalent per semester of instruction in the program. While Central Catholic does not incorporate the entire program, the use of the program has improved the reading ability of our low-ability readers.
Sustained Silent Reading or DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) (K-12)
STAR Reader STAR Reader is an assessment to which can be used to assess students' reading levels in less than 10 minutes. It provides accurate, reliable, norm-referenced reading scores including grade equivalents, percentile ranks, and normal curve equivalents, which allow Central Catholic to determine the appropriate level of challenge for each student to personalize practice and individualize instruction.
Root Focus Root Focus is a school-wide program built for developing the vocabulary of the student body. The program focuses on understanding the roots of words, allowing students to make connections with the word parts, helping them to understand new words when they are encountered. One of the most important readings for increasing vocabulary is the connection between vocabulary and reading comprehension. This program is effective and makes sense, because for a student to understand what (s)he reads, (s)he must understand the words (s)he’s reading.

AP Course Offerings
AP Courses are designed to cover the information, skills, and assignments found in corresponding college courses, as well as to align with the standards and expectations offered at leading institutions. AP Courses are a way for Central Catholic to provide motivated and academically prepared students the opportunity to study and learn at the college level. Most U.S. colleges and many international ones have an AP Credit Policy which allows students who have taken AP courses or exams to earn college credit, placement, or both.
Dual-Credit Course Offerings
Like the AP offerings, Dual-Credit course offerings are a way for Central Catholic students to cover the information, skills, and assignments found in corresponding college courses, while in high school. While there is a minimal fee for taking the courses, it is less expensive than taking these classes on-campus, and allows the student to study with teachers and in settings in which they are familiar. These courses are offered for college credit through Northeast Community College, and are transferable to many colleges in Nebraska.
Extra-Curricular Activities
Through extra curricular activities, Central Catholic hopes to develop leaders and champions who strive for excellence and exhibit the qualities and behaviors of good teammates. The school offers nine athletic teams and four fine arts activities sanctioned by the NSAA, as well as other school and conference-based activities in which students can find ways to succeed and excel.
